Q&A: How can one know which brand of herbal supplements is best and most credible?

Question by dani: How can one know which brand of herbal supplements is best and most credible?
I spend alot of money buying alot of herbal and nutritional supplements, but lately I've been wondering how one can know which supplements truly contain the ingredients that they claim in the amounts that they claim, and whether they are manufactured with quality standards, etc. Since they aren't regulated, how can one know for sure. Are there any brands that are frequently tested by independent labs, and how does one know that the supplement company is not just paying off the lab to give it a passing score? I'm obsessing over this but don't know how to find credible information about it. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Well, whole foods have nutritional value that they're advertising in these supplements. Why buy supplements when you can get your daily intake of vitamins through the real deal: WHOLE FOODS!!! If you're spending a lot on herbal and nutritional supplements, why not buy organic foods, and fresh herbs to cook with? Lab tests will show that most of the vitamins and supplements you're taking is only expected to absorb about 30% of it 'nutritional value' into your system. Most people pass these pills without ANYTHING absorbing into their systems! I believe this is because we're not meant to get our daily vitamins from pills, but rather from whole foods. Is this like, a homework assignment or something??? The fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E, and K. The water-soluble vitamins are C and the B-complex vitamins such as vitamins B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin, and folate. Minerals like chromium, copper, iodine, iron, selenium, and zinc are trace minerals. Oil is obviously heavier than water....and i think sunshine vitamin is vitamin C...I think...thats all I could come up with at the top of my head....

Hey

I just want to know a few things what it's going to take to be fit for boxing (actual fighting). I do boxing at a gym but i need to know some home routines, since i can't get to the gym every day. I want to target my strength and fitness at home. I have bench press, dumbbells, light medicine ball, skipping rop, heavy bag and proper gloves. any other equipement you reccomend please put down.

I am 75.kgs. 6ft tall. lean and need to get cardiovascular fitness up. possibly weight loss as well.

thanks to both. you both gave good information. I am training boxing for fighting but it began asa sport to do and also because in my suburb you need to look strong to survive.

As an amateur boxer, id say run and jump rope. If I couldnt make it to the gym, I would just do as much running as possible. You dont need to do weight training or anything like that. Get your bag work, sparring and other stuff at the gym, and do your cardio at home. Guys like Mayweather run 10 miles at a time. You should push for at least 5, if you are going to be fighting in 3 round amateur fights.

you really need to give more detail. we can recommend phones, but they may not work where you live.
are you wanting a full qwerty keyboard, or would you be happy with just the normal pad?
some data plans are expensive depending on your use. It might be a smarter idea to just use the internet at hotspots.
an att unlimited data plan runs around a month.

a very reasonable phone for this is the nokia e51. it doesnt have a qwerty keyboard, but it has wlan so i dont have to pay for data when im near unsecured networks.

I'm trying to lose weight. I'm only 15 years old and it's hard for me to go to a gym or to buy exercise equipment to exercise in the house. The only thing really holding me back from going on a diet is exercise because i know it's hard to lose weight without exercise. Could someone help me?

1. Dont diet.
2. What do you do in PE lessons?!?!!?
One way which helps me is running. When I first started I ran round the block for... a week. And towards the end I was quite comfortable with running that distance. After that week I ran round a bigger space.
Cycling can help too!
Or dancing! Dance mat games often have a work out mode on them, or just pretend you're a super dancing diva and dance and skip and jump wherever you go!
